Occasionally we are asked by vacationing cat owners to only check on their cat every other day. This service is one that we do not offer, for the following reasons:
Even Independent Cats Require Supervision
Even though cats are more independent animals than dogs, they still require supervision. An enclosed household contains more hazards to an independent cat than the outdoors, which is why we prefer to check on cats every day.
We Want to Ensure your Cat’s Wellbeing
We are cat owners and cat lovers, too, and we would be worried about your pet if we only saw him or her every second day. Particularly if your cat is young, old, or has a special need, it is important that we ensure your cat is okay each day you are away.
We Can Identify Emergencies
Some cat emergencies cannot wait more than 24 hours. By checking on your cat every day, we can make sure your cat is not left home alone too long in case an emergency illness arises.
We Can Help in Case of Accidents
If your cat has an accident, such as missing a landing when jumping or falling from a perch, we will be able to get your cat the necessary care as soon as possible.
We Can Help your Cat if it Gets Stuck
Cats have a way of getting themselves into trouble, such as getting stuck in vents, locking themselves into rooms, or climbing into mattresses. If your cat is stuck, 48 hours is too long for your pet to go without food, water, or access to a litter box. A cat sitter can remove your cat from this potentially dangerous situation in a timely manner.
Your Cat Might Spill its Water
Sending a cat sitter to your house at least once per day ensures your cat does not become dehydrated due to a spilled water dish. In the wild your cat would simply find a new area from which to drink, but indoors the water dish is your cat’s only hydration source. Two days without water could lead to a severely dehydrated cat.
You Cat Could Overeat
Even if your cat is generally good about portion control, there is no guarantee your cat will not overeat and give itself a stomach ache if given enough food for two days. By allowing us to visit your cat every day, we can ensure this problem is avoided.
We Ensure the House is Secure
If you live in an apartment, having a cat sitter come by frequently ensures accidents don’t occur, such as a maintenance worker dropping by and accidentally leaving the door open. Should a cat escape in this manner, having the problem detected sooner rather than later is important.
Ultimately, when your cat is in our care we wish to provide the very best service. Your cat’s wellbeing is our top priority, which cannot be adequately ensured during every-other-day visits.
